Advice for Parents looking for boarding schools

Modern educationists recommend boarding schools for today’s children as they play an essential role in their overall evolution and help them in proper character development. Students can focus more on studies in boarding schools because the entertainment assets are limited. They become more self-independent and learn to manage everything in life in a proper manner. The above list provides the best options for your child, browsing on a broader scale is also suggested for your personal satisfaction.

Boarding schools or D-schools, parents have the authority to decide what is best for their child. What is more essential, however, is admitting their children to a school whose progressive approach helps in the development of their child.

Parents need to take their time out and understand which school to choose. A right school not just focuses on academics but other behavioural development activities too so that the child would become a well-adjusted person as an adult and excels in life.

General FAQs

Why are boarding schools so highly regarded in India?

India has a lot of great boarding schools in terms of education and other curricular activities. Schools like The Doon School, Scindia School, Welham School, etc. have made their position at the top due to the enormous infrastructure and facilities provided.

A number of the alumni from all these famous institutions are popular personalities in India in every sector- entertainment, military or politics.

Boarding schools promote comradeship among its students, and help them in excelling not only in academics but also sports. They intend to make their students not just specialists in particular, but generalist- all-rounders.

These schools play an essential role in bringing out the leaders of tomorrow, nurturing them to an extent through which they could bring about a change in country. Their progressive approach makes it easy for students to learn and surpass any hurdles they face in their lives.

From a beautiful environment to great academic records, there are a bunch of reasons why boarding schools are so highly regarded.

What are the advantages of boarding schools in India?

Students studying in boarding schools are treated equally, with all the same benefits being provided to each and every student. From behaviour to discipline to academics, every student is paid attention to these aspects, for their overall development. With only a small amount of children, teachers pay equal attention to every student, for their progress.

Students don’t inculcate the habit of comparing their life with that of others, which is one con of D-Schools. Staying away from all sorts of mundane things make them smart, independent and unaffected.

Boarding schools provide equal opportunities to both girls and boys, keeping in mind all their requirements and needs. They focus more on their overall development rather than just an excellent academic record.

Students studying in boarding schools are all-rounders, good in every field because this is what the school scenario is all about. They tend to make the child rise and shine in all aspects.

What is the impact of boarding schools on students?

With a bunch of extra-curricular activities, proper study time, and daily routine, these schools keep the children wholly occupied. Even during vacations, students tend to return to their schools, which is both shocking and amusing for parents at the same time.

Boarding schools bring about a positive transformation in a child, which becomes visible in their life as an adult later. They develop leadership qualities and independent attitude after passing out from boarding schools.

Why do most parents prefer day schools over boarding schools?

Day schools are non-residential schools, that students attend during the day, and later return to their homes. They don’t live in the school’s premises, unlike boarding schools. For children aged 2-10, parents must give them an ample amount of time and love for their overall development.

A large section of the society prefers day schools over boarding schools so that they could keep an eye on their children. Many feel boarding schools might spoil the children. Relationship between children and parents plays a vital role because this impacts a child’s progress at an early age. In day schools, parents can always keep an eye on their children.

Why are boarding schools better than day schools?

For working-class parents, day schools don’t help much. Instead, they only satisfy the basic time-bounded needs of children, like education and extracurricular activities.

Parents love to pamper their children, this is what is one of the disadvantages of D-Schools. Over pampering affects the child’s development, which sometimes becomes a threat in their later life. There are large groups of parents who love to shower their kids with worldly things, making them utterly dependent on their parents financial status.

Moreover, the child may be poorly affected if there are regular fights at home and other problems like alcohol and drinking, also have a negative impact. That’s when it becomes crucial to send your child to boarding school.

This is where boarding schools help. A child not only stays away from home but is also away from all the types of things and thoughts which are not necessary for them as a child.

Before the digital age, there was a massive difference in the point of view of children studying in boarding and day schools. Earlier, boarding school students lacked essential interaction with the outside world.

Nowadays, with everyone having access to phones and laptops, made everything easy. Boarding students have knowledge of everything going in the country and the world.

Day schools have more children than boarding schools, making it difficult for teachers of day schools to be involved with every student. Boarding school don’t have many students, and teachers give equal time to all, to understand their needs better and help them in every aspect.

I commend the work put into publishing this article and I am sure those involved in bringing out this piece of information have done so after their own research and fact finding. However, it is astonishing not to see premier residential schools like Wynberg-Allen School, Mussoorie (Estd. 1888), Lawrence School, Lovedale (Estd. 1858), St. Joseph’s School, North Point, Darjeeling (Estd. 1888) or St. Edmund’s, Shillong (Estd. 1916) figure in your list of top 50 boarding schools in the country.
