St. Joseph College is located in the city of Prayagaraj, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was founded in 1884 by the Capuchin Friars of the province of Ancona and Bologna, managed by Roman Catholic Diocese of Prayagaraj. The school first began from a rented house and Rt. Rev. Dr Francis Pesci laid the foundation of the school building on 01 January 1884, spread around an area of 8.44 acres.
It is an unaided, minority, a private and an all-boys school. Later, in 1887 it was announced as a middle school. There were only 23 students when it began, but by 1920 the number of students increased to 63. The school earlier used to have hostel facilities in 1980. Still, these were closed down and were replaced by four classrooms and laboratories for biology, physics. The school has an affiliation to ICSE Board.
The school is famous for its achievements as well as has high rankings both in the state and in India. The school is also known for its hard-working principals. The faculty leaves no stone unturned to provide the best education and to instil the best skills in children. The students of this school are also known as Josephite’s. The motto of this school is ‘Semper Sursum’ meaning Always Aim High.
The institution believes in strengthening the minds of the children not only intellectually but morally and emotionally as well. To mark the 125th year the principal added a Jubliee Block to the Junior section with a wide staircase and elevator. The school also built a cafeteria on demand of their students. In 2007, a computer lab was also added to the institution.
Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne Chief Of The Air Staff and an alumnus of the school visited on 03 April 12 to recollect memories of his school days. He shared his experiences with the students by a motivational speech. He also dedicated C-1609 MIG-21 T-96 aircraft to the school.
