Shimla Public School SPS, Shimla was founded by Mrs Pritpal Singh in 1979, the school is popularly known as SPS. The extreme dedication and hard work of the founders made SPS to be recognised amongst the best schools of Shimla. The school was only a nursery school in its initial years. In each year reputation of school increased, and a new class was added every year. In 1986, school got affiliated to ICSE Board, New Delhi. The first batch of board examinations was in the year 1990.
SPS hosts a hostel, with well-designed rooms, a dining room and an entertainment arena. Hostel grew over the years, and it has more than 200 students in the hostel. There are more than 50% of foreign nationals in the school.

The school pays emphasis on extracurriculars; the school takes part in inter-school levels. The school has a hardworking staff. Head of time is Mrs Reena Singh, and the school believes in the stress-free pattern, and the homework is not too much. Outside faculty are called for the performance of senior students primarily in science and maths. Hostel staff believes in taking personal care of students. Two wardens are there, and Mr Pritinder Singh is the manager, and he lives on the campus. Six hundred fifty children are there in school.

Four houses are there in school for taking care of extracurricular activities named Gandhi, Patel, Tagore and Nehru. All the students are allotted a house, and there is a house in charge. Inter-house competitions for the same are held every year. Activities like dancing, cooking, trekking, indoor shooting, dramatics, cross country races, athletics, basketball are carried in the school. Transportation facility is provided available for day scholars, and it is often used for taking the hostel students for tours, treks and excursions. School has proved many times to be a reputed and one of the best schools; it has excelled in all spheres of education, sports and extracurriculars.

Normally, forms for admission into the Nursery/Junior KG /Senior KG class are issued in November to January and for the other classes in the last week of February. New admission to classes other than Kindergarten will be decided strictly on the basis of entrance tests.
