Model Academy, Jammu

The Model Academy is one of the most premier institutes in Jammu and Kashmir. It is the first private institution in J&K and was established in 1936 by Late Professor H.L. Gupta and Late Shrimati Shanti Gupta. It is a co-educational, senior secondary school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. It is also the first school in J&K to get the Internal Organization of Standards (ISO) 9001:2008 accreditation for its Quality Management System (QMS). The school currently houses approximately 2000 students.

The curriculum of the school is multi-faceted. It is an amalgam of a teacher's human touch with the latest technology available for schools.  The school has subject laboratories for physics, chemistry, biology, computers and also an English-language lab. The institution also has a spacious library with many books, magazines, journals, reference books etc.

The school follows a house system, having four houses- Newton, Einstein, Edison and Darwin. The main aim of having a house system is to develop teamwork and leadership quality in the students. The houses participate in several Inter-house competitions throughout the academic year. The students compete in cultural and sports events to ensure that their house wins. There are competitions for singing, dancing, elocution etc.

As far as Sports is concerned, the school feels that sports are essential for the all-round development of a child. Participation in sports events is actively encouraged by the faculty and management. For the support of students, the school management has developed top-notch facilities for transport, a dispensary and a counselling cell.

Admission Process

• The parent can submit the applications for admission in classes 1st to 12th from February till March. 
• There is direct admission for grades 1st to 9th based on the merit of the student in the previous class. 
• The school accepts admission in classes 11th and 12th in science, commerce and arts. 
• Admissions to Grade 11th are made only after the declaration of board result of class 10th and after receiving a No Objection Certificate from the J&K State Board of School Education.

Admission under Freeship Category

• The school helps the weaker segments such as scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, below the poverty line and students from RBA/LAC areas, by reserving up to 20% of seats under the freeship category of the total number of admissions.

Admission under Inclusive School

• The school provides admission to students with mental retardation and mild learning disabilities under the inclusive education programme. 
• The main motive of this programme is to provide equal learning opportunities to these students and help them in developing relationships and prepare them for life in the mainstream.
