Bhai Sahib Ditta Mal Ji founded the Mata Jai Kaur Public School (MJKPS) in the year 1977. The school was built in the memory of his late wife, on whose name he also established the Mata Jai Kaur Charitable Trust Fund which still manages the school. It is spread around an area of approximately 4 acres. It has a sister school named Jaspal Kaur Public School in Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi.

The MJKPS is a Senior-Secondary School following the CBSE curriculum. The classes range from Nursery, i.e. Preschool to Class 12th. Students in Class 11th can choose between Humanities, Commerce and Science Stream.

In December 2018 the MJKPS was conferred with the International School Award, a prestigious award from the British Council of India, given to schools who have stood out in the international scenario. Students, teachers and staff members participated in around 35 activities with international dimensions, under the ISA programme.

The MJKPS has always emphasized on the importance of academics. Various Smart classes, Science labs, Computer labs are present to ensure that the students can become proficient in both the theoretical and technical aspects of a given subject.

Various facilities for extracurricular activities and sports are available in MJKPS. It follows a house-based system with 4 houses: Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Bhai Vir Singh, Banda Singh Bahadur and Hari Singh Nalwa. Every year the houses compete with each other in sports (athletics, cricket, football, basketball) and CCA activities like singing, dancing, debates, symposium etc.

An exceptional thing about MJKPS is that it believes in Shubh Karman Tey Kabhoon Na Taaron - May I never deviate from doing a good deed. It actively encourages its students to take part in Community Service programs for organisations like the Cheshire home, Nirmal Hriday, SOS villages etc. Also, the Paperboat Project initiative is present, in which the students meet the children of economically weak background.

Famous alumni of MJKPS include Bollywood actresses Taapsee Pannu and Vaani Kapoor.

The admission procedure in the Preschool, i.e. Nursery follows a point-based system. The following point system (Max Score=100) is used in the screening process:

• The distance of residence (in Km) from School with Max points = 55): 0-6=55 ; 6-8=45 ; 8 and above=25
• MXSA = 15 points
• Sikh Community = 15 points
• Sibling = 15 points

For all other classes, the school lists out vacancies on its official website. Interested students can apply by filling a registration form, and then the shortlisted candidates are called for interview. For admissions in Class 11th, the marks of Class 10th Board exams are considered.
