Boys High School, Prayagraj

The Boys’ high school, was initially established in 1861 and is one among the oldest educational institutions of Allahabad. It is located on a lush green campus of 13-acre within the heart of town, in Civil Lines, at 4 P.D. Tandon Road.

Since its inception, the varsity has been a trail-blazer within the field of education. It was one in all the primary institutions within the city to begin co-education. However, with time, the co-educational character of the varsity was lost, and teaching was confined to boys only.

History

In its glorious history of 151 years, the varsity has undergone several sorts of changes, in terms of location, (physical and academic), volume and standing. Changes invariably bring challenges and problems, but the varsity was sufficiently resilient and buoyant and endowed with experience and maturity to weather them. It’s a matter of great pride that even today, Boys’ high school & college may be a pioneering institution within the domain of upper pedagogy within the country.

Later, the college was shifted to the Allahabad Fort area. The present site on which the college exists today was acquired in 1860 from the realm that is known as Bundwa Village. The varsity was founded on the fifth day of November within the year 1861 and also became a government recognized institution.

However, previously, the classes were held into long-thatched hammock-like buildings. One for the boys and another for the women, for at that point, the college was co-educational.

The school was affiliated from 1898 to 1914 to the University of Allahabad, also called the Oxford Of the East.

Motto

The motto “Mentem Hominis Spectato Non-Frontem” could be a Latin phrase meaning “Don’t judge the person by his face but by his deeds”.

The shape of the symbol resembles that of the centre which denotes love. The red outline reminds the children that Jesus died on the cross, and in him, we’ve got redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins that the globe through him may well be saved. The three crowns represent the daddy, the Son and therefore, the Holy Spirit. 

The banian tree within the centre represents the scholar. The streams indicate the fogeys, Teachers and Friends.

Boarding Facility

In the year 1899, the varsity authorities sold the boarding house and therefore, the connected building to the govt for Rs.12,000 to clear the deficit and agreed to pay Rs.90 per month as rent. Even this meagre amount often went into arrears. 

The admission to this school is given only by the Principal of the school. THhe Principal has the full authority to deny, cancel or approve an admission request.
