The Aditya Birla World Academy (ABWA) was established in the year 2008, under the aegis of the Aditya Birla Group and is named after the late founder of the firm, Mr Aditya Vikram Birla. It is a private co-educational day school, affiliated to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and offers education from LKG to 12th standard with English as its medium of instruction.
At ABWA, both the teachers and students together strive to create a well-integrated learning environment which is conducive to develop and enhance a child's innate skills, abilities and talents. Along with focusing on academic excellence, the students are also encouraged to think critically and to be able to question the world around them. The teachers are highly dedicated and encourage the students to improve their skills through in-service training workshops conducted by the school regularly throughout the year. The school aims to develop a child's overall personality. It stimulates them to be mindful, sensible and responsible citizens of the nation by conducting a wide range of extra and co-curricular activities. The school focuses on the socio-emotional development of every child. It ensures that each child feels, motivated and supported equally. At ABWA, teachers believe that every child is unique in his or her way, and if given a nurturing environment, can achieve his or her true potential.
ABWA aims to make learning more active and fun-filled while keeping our Indian values and contemporary global trends in mind. They ensure that education does not focus only on rote learning, but also helps to develop and enhance all the skills necessary to face the challenging world with confidence. The philosophy of the school is to help every child become a balanced and responsible member of the society having instilled the values such as ethos, empathy and integrity, passion, seamlessness, discipline and transparency. The mission of the school is to nurture the innate potential of its students and mould them into passionate, competent, committed, sensitive, value-based individuals with leadership qualities.
At ABWA, the two key traits of the school environment are fostering positivity and resilience, which help the students to adapt to any given situation. The school is committed to nurture the skills and talent of the students and to encourage them to let their imagination fuel their passion. They endeavour to give its children the roots to stand firm, soar to great heights of excellence and the wings to fly high and reach the heights of the success. The school offers a plethora of curricular and extracurricular activities for each child's unique potential. It helps them to fuel their curiosity and passion for learning new things.
Students at Aditya Birla World Academy are divided into four different groups or houses. The first house of the school is Aryabhatta, named after India's most famous mathematician Aryabhatta. With blue being the colour of the house, it has the sun as its symbol, which represents the supreme knowledge, warmth of love and tireless service. The second house is Chanakya, named after the famous economic and political strategist Chanakya. The eye symbol of the house stands for extraordinary vision to manifest the full potential, which also represents wisdom and alertness that influences all the actions leading towards holistic success. The colour of the house is yellow. Vivekananda is the third house of the school, named after the philosopher, thinker and spiritualist Swami Vivekananda. With green being the colour of the house, the symbol of the house is spiral which represents the unravelling mysteries of life; it is also a symbol of concentration and intuition. The fourth and the last house of the school is Kalidasa, named after one of the most celebrated Sanskrit writers Kalidasa. The colour of the house is red, and the symbol is lotus which symbolises the essence of ancient poetic expressions. Also, the five petals of lotus represent the five elements of the nature that synchronises with the five senses of a human being.
The ABWA believes that a large part of the school life is learning teamwork, building strength and honing that competitive spirit. To promote the same ABWA encourages its students to engage in sporting activities across a diverse range. The school offers co-curricular activities like speech, drama, cultural events, Indian music, western music, Indian dance, western dance, yoga, gymnastics and physical education.
Aditya Birla World Academy has achieved some significant milestones over the years as it has occupied 6th place in the all-India international school rankings. It is also ranked as the 2nd best international school in Mumbai and Maharashtra in the category - 'India's top 20 International Schools' at the Education Today School Merit Awards 2019.
