Vikaasa School , Madurai

The Vikaasa School, Madurai is a Co-educational English medium day-cum-residential school affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), offering the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Indian School Certificate (ISC) syllabus. The school was established in 1969, with only 15 children. Over time, the school has flourished a lot and now houses over 2500 students (ranging from pre-school to class 12th).

The school has a multi-disciplinary curriculum, focussing not on the academic section but also helps them in developing life skills, interpersonal & communication skills, general knowledge (G.K.), socially useful productive work (SUPW) and physical education (P.E.)

The classrooms are spacious and well-lit. The teaching faculty is competent and well-experience. Over the years, many classrooms have been transformed into digital classrooms/smart classes. There are subject laboratories for physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computers etc. The school also houses a spacious and well-stocked library comprising of a wide array of books, periodicals, magazines, journals etc.

The school follows a house system, named after the four legendary dynasties of Tamil Nadu- Chera, Chola, Pandiya and Pallava. Each student is allotted a house, and the houses compete in various cultural events like dancing, singing, dramatics, elocution, sports activities etc. throughout the year. The school management believes that this house system is quite helpful in inculcating a sense of teamwork and leadership in the tender minds of the students.

As already mentioned, sport is an integral part of the curriculum. There are various facilities and specialized coaches for cricket, football, basketball, volleyball and indoor games like chess and carrom.

The school has world-class boarding facilities for the students. There are separate dormitories for boys and girls. A canteen/mess is present where the students can eat peacefully. The hostel is completely secured with CCTV cameras, professional guards etc.

The school has an excellent transport system. A transport in-charge is allotted to each bus for ensuring the safe and hassle-free commute of the students. The school also has a medical room having several beds. A nurse is at present here at all times during school hours.
