Vidya Niketan was established in 1985  by Kasturba Education Trust in memory of Kasturba Vithani, aiming to provide both quality education and sports culture to its students making it a child-centred school. The main mission of the school is “Character building and Man making” and the main motto of the school is “Discipline and Excellence” and the school believes in Co-operation over Competition. The school was ranked 10th in 2010 by Education World, the school was placed 7th in 2011 by Education World and the school ranked 2 in the city and 1st in the North Zone of Banglore by Times School survey edition. The school is famous for its good build infrastructure. Vidya Niketan strongly believes in being socially and environmentally aware and inculcate the same in our students. It is a senior secondary school affiliated with ICSE(Indian Certificate for Secondary Education).

Vidya Niketan School provides its students with many indoor and outdoor sports facilities like cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, throwball, athletics, yoga, etc. The school also provides its students with many other facilities like libraries, science labs, computer labs, maths lab, home science labs, art room, music room, etc.
