Gyan Devi Salwan Public School was established in the year 1990. This prestigious institution's vision is based on innovative learning approaches, constant improvement, development of practical skills, and an unwavering dedication to the academic calibre. 

GD Public School has a strength of approximately 1248, comprising of classes from Nursery level to Class 12. The medium of instruction is English. GDSPS is affiliated to the council of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and prepares its students for the All India Secondary School Examination (AISSE - Class 10), and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE - Class 12)

Gyan Devi Salman Public School provides the students with the best of infrastructures such as a state-of-the-art amphitheatre, sports courts, water harvesting units, solar panels and golf courts, to name a few.  The school comes under the Salwan Education Trust founded by late Pt. Girdhari Lal Salwan whose mission in life was to provide quality education for all regardless of their class, caste, religion and creed. Sister institutions of GDSPS that were started by him in 1941 still impart quality education in Peshawar. Today, nine schools are successfully run by the Salwan Education Trust. 

Students of GDSPS have won various accolades in the fields of sports, academics and arts. There are various clubs in the school for the overall co-scholastic development of the students. 

The mission statement of the school focuses on these different areas - Creating a sense of social responsibility in their students through education and helping humanity as a whole, creating and nurturing leadership potential in their students to help them to grow into tomorrow's policymakers, and developing and promoting creativity to see how that can be used to find solutions for the problems that are currently affecting the world globally, like how to tackle poverty, climate change, and world peace.  

Once the admissions for kindergarten classes begin, a notification will be published in all the leading local newspapers. This is usually in November or as per the recommendation of the Directorate of Education. The admission registration form will be available on the school website and needs to be deposited at the school office before the last date mentioned. Any form submitted after the last date, will not be considered.

There is a 25% reservation available in each standard, specifically for economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups in the society.

The school uses 100-point criteria to ensure a fair admission process for new students. There is a strict no-donation, the no-recommendation policy when it comes to admissions. Admission of students will be fully based on the merit of the student, and a first-cum-first-serve basis.

The list of students with the points they scored will be made available to the public on the school website and will show the students selected, and the students who have been waitlisted.

The admission process usually ends by March, and is extended only if there are pending seats available, and is carried out as per the directive of the Directorate of Education.
