Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Gachibowli, Hyderabad

The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Gachibowli is one of the several Central schools running under the aegis of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), New Delhi. It is a co-educational English medium senior secondary school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. All the JNVs are residential schools and are for the academically bright students belonging to rural areas. The school campus is spread around a sprawling area of approximately 30 acres. The school starts taking in students from Class 6th, and their seven years of stay is free, including boarding charges and tuition fees. All the JNV schools are Centrally-funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Academics are a vital part of the curriculum. The faculty is competent and well-experienced. 

The classrooms have been modified into digital classrooms or e-Pathshalas. There are subject laboratories for physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computers etc. All the JNV schools have a 3-language formula- to facilitate migration. Under this, each student from Class 6th to 9th has to study 3 languages. In a Non-Hindi speaking state like Telangana, the three languages are Telugu (A level), English (B-1 level) and Hindi (B-2 level).

The school follows a boarding system which is compulsory for all students. The residential campus has world-class facilities. 

The boys and girls have separate dormitories. There is a canteen where the students sit and eat. Various facilities are provided to the students, like a medical facility, transportation services (if required), assistance from teachers etc.

The school takes its Extra-curricular activities very seriously. Throughout the academic year, many competitions are held where the students get a chance to showcase their talent and skills in youth parliament, dancing, singing, elocution, debates etc. The school management feels that sports are essential in boosting a child's confidence. The NVS comes under the School Games Federation of India (SGFI). The students of school compete with the other schools under SGFI at various levels. The school is also associated with National Cadet Corps (NCC), Scouts and Guides, Green Corps etc.

Every candidate who wants to enrol in any JNV school has to pass the JNVST entrance exam (conducted by CBSE).

The JNVST exam is conducted annually (in 3 phases depending on the State) for Class 6th.

The reservations for admissions are-

• At least 75% of students have to be from a rural area, with a maximum of 25% of the students belonging to a city.
• Reservations are present for SC and ST students.
• At least 33% of the seats are reserved for female students.

The admissions are also conducted for Class 9th, 10th and 12th. (but only in special circumstances)
