Who doesn’t want the best for the children? To quote an amazing movie which came out a few years ago, “Parents are the ghosts of their children’s future.” An obvious interpretation of this would be that parents are what define the future of their kids and it is the biggest duty of their life that their children have a good one. This is a statement virtually every parent can resonate with—at least on some level.

Getting your child into an ideal school is a great way to ensure they are put on the right path towards a bright future but there is one core flaw with this idea. Ideality is extremely rare in reality, in fact, it is so rare that both those terms could be used as opposites of each other and this makes the very concept of ideal school absolutely fictional—though you would be hard-pressed to even find a school in popular fiction that can be described as actually being ideal.

Furthermore, the nature of what an ideal school is can vary from person to person which further makes finding one even more complicated.

So what should one really look when trying to find an ideal school for their child?

All-around development is something that is often thrown around on banners of most schools and is a promise they usually make at the time of admission. Sadly it is something that these schools strive for only in principle, seldom in practice.

Most Indian school schools tend to focus on only the academic side of things when it comes to the education of their students, an approach that nearly every human resources expert would define as fundamentally followed but still these schools vehemently pursue it.

In an ideal school, the way of academic education will need to be different from the mainstream “mug-it-up” method that most schools follow. This would involve more focus on whether the students actually know their course rather than if they properly remember and can replicate what was written in their books which they studied a night before the exam.

But an ideal school would, in theory, be one where academics are treated as just a part of real education and focus is placed on other aspects of the development of their students? What are these other aspects?

Personality development is something which is getting a lot of attention in colleges these days and the reason college students have to work so hard towards it is that a majority of Indian schools never bother with it. Childhood and teenage experiences can define a person’s life and their personality and most people spend those years of their lives in school. Since those schools rarely ever focus on personality development, people are forced to start working on their personality in their 20s which is already too late for a large number of them.

Thus an ideal school should make the personality development of their students a top priority and ensure that every single on their students has confidence, is articulate and can hold his own when facing a problem without panicking and turning to desperate measures. Creatively, Leadership skills, Empathy, and teamwork are all things which prove to be very integral to the lives of successful people and be can developed in children and teenagers if they are given the right guidance and that is what an ideal school should aim for.

So when deciding which school you should send your child to, find out what approach they take to both academics and personality development and if they are actually following through on what they are seemingly promising.

This way even though you may never find an ideal school, you will definitely find the right one for your child.
