History

Established by Gujarat Energy Research & Management Institute, in 2007, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University is a private university through the State Act. The University is recognized by the UGC (University Grants Commission) and is a member of the AIU (Association of Indian Universities). Accredited with a Grade A by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council, the university received the status of an autonomous university in 2018.

It is one of the only two private universities in India to have accorded autonomy. This allows the university to introduce new courses, off-campus centers, skill development courses, research parks and new academic programs. It provides the university with the freedom to hire foreign faculty, enroll foreign students and run open distance learning programs. School of Liberal Studies, PDPU in Gandhinagar, offers 14 courses across 5 streams namely Commerce & Banking, Arts, Management, Vocational Science and across 5 degrees like BA, BBA, B.Com, B.Sc. & MA. 

Infrastructure at SLS

The university started with a single building and then over the years, expanded its infrastructure to 4 large administrative blocks, an auditorium block, hostel blocks, cafeteria blocks, sports grounds & gardens. Spread across a lush green 100 acres campus with excellent biodiversity, the campus houses 18 different varieties of birds. The area is walled with 4 access points, monitored by CCTV, and is tobacco-free. The various on-campus facilities include a Math Lab, Academic Zone, AV Lab, Auditorium, ATM, Hostels, Computer Labs etc. Furthermore, the campus houses a pharmacy, SBI Branch, stationery store, resident daytime doctor, 24×7 doctor on call, ambulance, travel desk & campus store.

SLS Library

The SLS library is the heart of the school and supports the curriculum & research of the university faculty & students. Various collections of sources, resources & services are maintained for the users based on the Information Center at the Library. The library has been automated using the Alice for Windows (AFW) friendly library package. The software facilitates automated circulation of books and speedy access to bibliographic, location & availability information of books in the library. 

Wellness Center

SLS, PDPU has a state of the art wellness centre that offers cardio & weight training equipment and helps students workout under the supervision of a certified trainer. The center looks after the needs of more than 50 students per session and is functional throughout the day. As a part of the wellness center the university also provides an open ground for outdoor games, such as football, cricket and practice courts for basketball, volleyball & badminton.

Amenities

• The access to and from the hostel is monitored 24×7 by the security. The privacy of the girls hostel is given special care and consideration. The campus is tobacco-free and under 24×7 CCTV surveillance.
• The rooms are well furnished with movable furniture including beds, desks & chairs.
• Students are provided with ample lounges in the hostel for studying & relaxing. The lounges include a television facility where students can spend their leisure time.
• Each room is connected to two ethernet ports, connected to the campus network and the internet. Students are allowed to bring their laptops.
• The hostel also provides laundry service to enable students to manage time efficiently with economical prices for the laundry services.

AIESEC at SLS

SLS, PDPU has collaborated with AIESEC, a global, non-political, not for profit voluntary organization run by the students and the graduates of the institution. AIESEC includes over 100,000 members in 126+ countries and territories. Being the largest youth-run organization in the world, AIESEC has contributed to the society by giving eminent leaders like Kofi Annan, Bill Clinton, Neil Jannin etc. Through AIESEC, SLS aims to develop global professionals by providing international educational exchange to the students and create visibility of the university in the global educational scenario.

Flare: 

Flare is the official cultural fest of PDPU with events ranging from Dance, Music, Art, Literature, Theatre, Culture, Politics, Fashion and Gaming. The highlights of the annual four-day fest are Amethyst – The National Model Hunt, Ablaze – The Intra College Dance Competition and Pro Night – Featuring a famous artist from the Music Industry.

Tesseract: 

The official annual Science & Technical Fest of PDPU, Tesseract focuses on the quest for knowledge based on the literal meaning of the four-dimensional analogue of a cube. Various events ranging from robotics, cube assembling competitions, stock market simulation and an on-campus planetarium are the highlights of this 3-day fest at PDPU.

Community Development Initiative(CDI): 

The CDI includes workshops such as Terracota, Spoken English, Folk Dance, Art & Craft, Computer, Mehndi & Drama. The objective of the initiative is to impart knowledge and develop skills in the area of extracurricular activities to help children in their future endeavours.
