Reading Time: 3 minutes

Getting your children into the right school will impact their life far more than any grades they get throughout their academic career. Children who go to superior schools get much better mental, physical, emotional and social development than the other students.

This is the primary reason most parents want to get their children admitted to the best school possible which ends up increasing the competition to get into these schools. While a few schools prefer to take a written test, the main thing which will decide if a child is going to get admission will be the admission interview.

While most schools keep the interview extremely simple, the number of children that actually get interviewed is so high that unless a child stands out, the chances of him or her getting selected are quite minimal.

If you’re a parent who is worried about your child’s upcoming admission, then you have arrived at the right place. Here are 3 things you can do to significantly increase the chances of your child getting into the school of your dreams.

Prepare for your own interview

Often before your child’s interview even begins or after it concludes, the person taking the interview would have a conversation with you about your general life, work, and family. This seemingly innocent dialogue is a proper interview in disguise and the interviewer is trying to gauge if you socially, financially and academically fit in with the culture of the school.

Admission Interview

In a perfect world, this information would play no role in whether your child gets the admission or not but unfortunately, this conversation with the interviewer might actually be a deciding factor. Pretending that this is anything short of your own interview can lead to a disappointing outcome.

Ensure your child knows at least a little more than the basics

Most children who sit for admission interviews have attended some pre-school so they are familiar with the first 10 numbers and the alphabets. The best and easiest way to ensure that your children stand out during the interview is to teach them a little more than what the interviewer is going to expect.

Basic knowledge of colors and their associations with objects is easy to cultivate even in very young children, which can give them an edge during the admission interview but a slight increase in complexity might just impress the interviewer. Instead of saying ‘A for Apple’, your child saying ‘A for Airplane’ would make a much better impression.

Build your child’s confidence for the admission interview

Parents are extremely protective of their children, especially when they are quite young. While most interviewers will try their best to seem friendly and kind, it would be the first experience of the child alone with a stranger.

A lack of confidence can spoil the interview of even the most brilliant of children and thus preparing them for this scenario is crucial. Asking relatives or friends who haven’t been around your child much to take mock interviews is the best possible way to slowly ease them to the Q&A format and slowly build their confidence.

Admission Season is here, and it is the most important time to prepare your child for the interviews ahead. If you are confused about the best school for your child, check out the best schools here.
