Sainik School , Nainital

Sainik School Ghorakhal is located near Nainital. It was established on 21st March 1966. The school is an English medium all boys school. It is affiliated to the council of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and prepares its students for the All India Secondary School Examination (AISSE - Class 10) , the All India Secondary School Certificate Examination (AISSCE - Class 12) and for the UPSC Examination for admission to the National Defence Academy (NDA. 

Sainik School aims to produce the qualities and skill of leadership, administration and self governance in the cadets by providing them an opportunity to involve in the day to day administration through the Prefecture system. The school has set up smart classes in all the classrooms to enhance efficient teaching and learning. 

Along with academic activities, the cadets are subjected to the responsibility of community living in the school. School captain and House captains are appointed every year to instill a healthy rivalry.  Cadets are required to conform to the code of conduct and uphold decent behaviour on which the qualities of a good citizenship is founded. Discipline, manners and teamwork are integral parts of their training. For this, the cadets are taken for adventure training frequently. Intra school competitions among the houses are held within the school to promote a healthy competitive spirit. The cadets win individual trophies and prizes to achieve the ultimate coveted House Shield.

The school provides the best infrastructure to the cadets. It includes a fully equipped auditorium with a LCD projector and a seating capacity of 600, a mess that provides nutritious meals, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, a 20-bed medical room with a part time medical officer and a full time nursing assistant, two well equipped computer labs, indoor and outdoor sports fields etc

So far more than 700 cadets from this institution have joined NDA. A large number of the alumni have also joined the IMA, Air Force Academy, OTA, Naval Academy, Coast Guard, Merchant Navy and AFMC. Many other cadets have joined the IAS,IPS, IIT, Banking services etc, and most of them hold high positions. The Raksha Mantri trophy was bestowed upon Sainik School Ghorakhal for sending the largest number of cadets to the NDA eight times in a row.

Admissions are made only once in a year in the month of April for classes 6 and 9. Candidates must clear the entrance examination in order to be eligible for admission.

Boys between the age of 10 - 12 and 13 - 15 years are eligible to take the entrance examination of classes 6 and 9 respectively on the 1st of July

Examination centre allotment is at the discretion of the school.

67% seats will be reserved for candidates of Uttarakhand including the reservation for SC/ST/Defence categories. 

Entrance examination for the selection of candidates will be held on the first Sunday in January, annually.
