The Congregation of the Sisters of the Great Shepherd was founded in France in 1835 by St. Mary Euphrasia. 
She was gifted with love for humanity and revered each person in her/his uniqueness. The socially marginalised young girls and ladies of her time found her as a loving mother and also a teacher.  
The Good Shepherd School in Chennai was first started in 1925.

By the time of her death on 24th April 1868, she had founded around 100 Convents across the world, which also included one in India in 1854.  

They, the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, still make the ideal of their Foundress a living reality in the worldwide mission of education and re-education, both formal and non-formal in diverse cultures. Her favourite maxim was that they should always form strong characters of high principles ground within the end. Her comments on various aspects during this connection are worth of earnest reflection.

Study – We should always be diligent in studies, wanting to acquire knowledge, as by its means we shall be ready to help others.
Work- Act all that's given to undertake and to do.
Kindness -  It's kindness that wins hearts.
Justice - Don't say, do or hear anything which can injure the repetition of others.
Gratitude - Gratitude is the memory of the centre. They must always be grateful to God, our parents, teachers, our friends and our college.
Humility - Humility finally lands up in greatness. They regularly have a fault or imperfection, which is evident to any or near ourselves. To grow, we've to be a hospitable correction.
Zeal - After the true love of God, nothing seems complicated. With Zeal and Devotion, you will achieve accomplishing the foremost difficult task. All this could be often alright summed up in their motto.
